Cairns is located in the tropical far north of Australia on the east coast, and is a thriving tourist destination and a setting off point for the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree River and The Tablelands, and was my home for five years.
The Lagoon
View to the Lagoon. You cannot swim in Cairns due to the mudflats at low tide, and so the sign says, potential crocodiles, although in all my time in Cairns I have not sighted one inn the bay. The lagoon is the trade-off.

Cairns Marina

Babinda Boulders
Babinda Boulders is part of the World Heritage listed Wooroonooran National Park and is located approximately 60 kilometres south of Cairns. The Boulders area is named for a series of huge outcrops of granite boulders found along Babinda Creek.
Josephine Falls
Josephine Falls is part of the World Heritage listed Wooroonooran National Park approximately 60 kilometres south of Cairns. The clear waters of Josephine Creek flow down the slopes of Mt Bartle Frere, Queensland's tallest mountain.

From the car park there is a 600 metre walk to the clean, clear waters of Josephine Creek that tumble off the slopes of Mt Bartle Frere, Queensland's tallest mountain.
Port Douglas Marina
The Marina at Port Douglas, and the setting off point for tours to the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef.
Daintree River
Known as "Scarface", a resident crocodile on the Daintree River often visited by the crocodile tour boats.

Cairns Esplanade
Misty morning along the Cairns Esplanade. The Esplanade is popular for walking biking, viewing and snacking, and stretches from Cairns to North Cairns, a distance of approximately 3 kilometres.
